Back from an all-too brief holiday on Vancouver Island; above is a shot of Oyster Point near Campbell River. Coming back to snow and minus 20 from sunny and plus 10 in Victoria was a bit of a shock. On the bright side, at least winter seems to be starting mid-November this year instead of…

Copperfield Review
My short story “No One to Love” appears in the Autumn 2014 issue of The Copperfield Review, an online journal that’s been publishing historical fiction for the last fourteen years. I’m very happy to have my work published by them. Hope you enjoy it!
Guesting with Gail Anderson-Dargatz
Great big thanks to Gail Anderson-Dargatz for inviting me to write a guest post on her blog, which is up today, and where I talk about the experience of writing that first book. Boy, that seems like a long time ago. While you’re at Gail’s site, I encourage you to look around and check out all…
More readings; Vertigo; Kindle and Kobo
So there’s a view of my suite (!) at the Hotel Saskatchewan, where I stayed last week. How I got upgraded from a modest room to a suite is a long story, but I enjoyed it very much. The Hotel Saskatchewan is in After You’ve Gone, so I had to stay there, no question. It…
Ken Rivard
Ken and I are reading at Shelf Life this Thursday, Oct. 30th, at 7 PM.
We Have Liftoff!
The launch of After You’ve Gone was, I’m very happy to report, a great success. We had a standing room only crowd and sold lots of books. Thanks to everyone who came out! A special thanks to Mary Welin and Natasha Platt, who set the mood with some wonderful gypsy swing-inspired music; to Michael at…

After You’ve Gone by Lori Hahnel
Many thanks to Susan Toy for featuring me and my new novel today on Reading Recommendations. Susan, Alberta authors really appreciate all that you do for us!
They’re here!
At last! My copies of After You’ve Gone arrived today! It’s such an exciting moment, and kind of unreal in ways. In the case of this novel, it started out as some vague ideas eleven years ago and, with several longish breaks in the work on it, finally has come to be a book. Cool!
Thistledown Fall 2014 Shelfie
Well, if that isn’t a welcome sight! That’s Thistledown’s Fall 2014 books, fresh from the printer. So the books actually exist. It’s a hard concept to get your mind around until you are holding one in your hand. Even then, it takes a while to get used to the idea: this thing, that began however…
