Toronto; Gravity reading May 1

That’s my dear friend Diane Girard and myself hanging around after our most enjoyable lunch on Toronto’s Church Street. We don’t get the chance to meet in person too often, since I live in Calgary and Diane lives in Kitchener, but when we do get together we enjoy ourselves. It was a brief and busy trip: I attended the Access Copyright summit on Thursday and the AGM on Friday morning. I spent Friday afternoon with Diane and Friday evening at Eaton Centre. Saturday morning I had time for only a small portion of the Art Gallery of Ontario, which I enjoyed very much. And then it was back to Calgary Saturday evening. Interesting time!

Next up: the kick-off to my two-month long writer-in-residence term for the Alexandra Writers Centre Society at Gravity Espresso and Wine Bar. Last year’s w-i-r, Marcello Di Cintio, will be joining me in this reading which gets started at 7 PM. Check the AWCS webpage for information on the other events connected to the residency, including the one-day workshop Life Into Story which goes this Saturday, May 4th. Looking forward to working with AWCS again.

Awesome!

Like Steve said, this year’s edition of Writing in the Works was once again a smash.Image

From left to right, that’s me, Roberta Rees, Ken Cameron, Inge Trueman and Steve Passey in back. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us; in spite of the ridiculous weather, we had a packed house. Thanks also to Marje and staff at Memorial Park Library, Shelf Life Books and Elaine Morin, Susan Calder and Leslie Gavel for all their hard work.

Next up: yours truly is off to the Access Copyright AGM and summit in Toronto at the end of the month. Looking forward to learning more about the contentous issue of copyright in these crazy times. And very soon after that will be the kick-off to my two-month term as writer-in-residence at the Alexandra Writers Centre Society. The fun starts on May 1 at Gravity Wine and Espresso Bar, when Marcello Di Cintio will be passing the w-i-r torch on to me. More details soon.

Writing in the Works 2013 – Book it. Done

Half Wit Lit

WITW 2013 was held at the Memorial Park library in Calgary Thursday night – and it rocked. Ken Cameron, Inge Trueman, Roberta Rees and Lori Hahnel delivered stellar readings with yours truly tagging along for the ride. The crowd was super and the wine/cupcakes an added bonus.

The “after” party was held at the Hop In Brew Pub which was – as always – excellent.
