Writers’ Weekend at Calgary Public Library was a lot of fun, as always. Debbie Willis, Naomi Lewis and I fielded a bewildering array of questions and chatted with a lot of writers afterward about the whole crazy business.
And after giving so many people advice, I’ve decided to take some of my own advice and head to the Banff Centre for a few days of solitude and writing. I went on a couple of retreats when my boys were younger and solitude was harder to come by. Now that they’re in junior high and high school, the issue isn’t so much solitude as how I’ve let other things (like teaching — you know, those paying gigs) take up more time than I’m comfortable with. To the extent that I am doing very little of my own writing at the moment.
However, I am sure a few days on retreat will get me back into the writing groove again. Looking forward to it!
